Yoon-Suin Community Continuity

There is a relatively good Yoon-Suin community page on G+ which, aside from the blog, is the main place for discussing the setting online. There is lots of interesting stuff there. Clearly, that page will have to disappear when G+ goes away. I am currently considering options for replacements.

Please let me know in the comments to this entry (or on the post on G+ - I will cross-post this to the Yoon-Suin community page there) what your preferred option is:

a) A discussion forum on the Noisms Games website (yes, this exists!)
b) A subreddit, if this can be arranged
c) Something on MeWe (I don't have a MeWe account yet, but it seems to be where a lot of G+ exiles are heading)
d) Some other better option I've not thought of (and tell me what that is and why it's good!)

Please don't recommend anything to do with Facebook or Twitter; I don't use them and dont intend to start.

  2. I'd request "not MeWe." Too many Nazis. The Noisms forum could be fine! I'd like to see where the rest of RPG design plus ends up so that I can get all my content in one place, ideally.

  3. I use Reddit, so a subreddit would be cool... I’d also be winning to check forums, especially if you had a link from this blog.

I usually check the blog. (:

  4. A huge number of OSR g+ creators have moved to MeWe. A lot of stuff is happening there.

And regarding that idiotic "don't choose MeWe, too many Nazis there": bullshit. MeWe has private posts only, and you determine what posts appear in your feed.

  5. May not be perfect but there is an OSR discord server that seems to work alright. You could set up a discord?

  6. I'm personally in camp "don't support MeWe" because I don't personally think it will last. Reddit has some great subreddits already (like /RPGDesign and /OSR) that would be complimented well by a Yoon-Suin one. Reddit is where I learned about Yoon-Suin, actually. I also have your blog along with many others in my Feedly account and it's currently been my own best replacement for getting the same information I would have from G+

  7. Discussion forum on your own website!

  8. I’d prefer a blog. Given what I’ve seen of reddit I’m not a fan. Probably be more willing to try MeWe than reddit. However there are other options being investigated on the G+ escape pod so your blog might be a good spot until something more comes of that investigation. The blog answer, if it supports RSS, could also be included in the blog aggregator tool people have discussed, which I’m interested in trying out. That, along with the discussion, is probably *my* main use of G+ functionality.

  9. MeWe is blossoming very nicely, with much better interactions happening than on G+, but ymmv.

Not encountered any nazis there, but the block options do work well. Groups are easy to moderate and there's plenty of cross-pollination between OSR camps. Seems to be working well.

  10. Reddit and Noisms Games site forum, in that order.

  11. My vote is for Discord. You could set your own up, but Chris McDowell set up an OSR one and Zak a DIY one, and you could ask them if they’d set up a Yoon-Soon channel with ink their’s.

MeWe is ok, but Discord seems to get more daily chatting (which you don’t have to be a part of) and is great for people looking for group play. I’m fact, Discord is set up to run games over audio, video or text chat.

  12. The OSR discord because that is the only thing I check

  13. In order:
    1. MeWe
    2. Discord
    3. Reddit

Don't do a forum. So many people would simply never make an account and then never remember to login. That includes me.

  14. MeWe. And of course this blog ;-)

  15. I have been fairly happy with MeWe so far. Could use a few more nazis though, there habe been dosappointingly few.

  16. I vote MeWe. The OSR community is growing over there. Reddit could be a good option too.

  17. I would say nay on MeWe for some of the reasons mentioned before, but also because all posts being hidden unless your logged in makes it far less accessible, and there's also some speculation that they're not doing well financially and might also go under in a few years themselves. Though that's merely speculation.

I don't think Reddit is well suited for especially niche topics the same way g+ is. It can be excellent for Q&As and sharing fanart though. I think taking a look at /r/osr and /r/burningwheel and seeing if those levels of activity and type of content are what you're interested in.

I use discord the most, and a Yoon Suin room would do well to support quick questions and casual conversations, but i don't think it's especially good at in depth long form discussions, but that can depend on the size and personality of the group. You could make your own channel that you're in charge of if you like that level of control, or reach out to a server admin and see if you can collaborate on making a room in theirs.
If you've never used discord before I would suggest participating in one for a few days to get a sense of what it's like before jumping in head first with your own server. Chris McDowell's server is very welcoming and also very active! https://discord.gg/6vqF25E

  18. Is this a rebirth for old school forums? FAcebook did a number on them but it's a very good way (blogs too) to keep information accessible

  19. I have a prototype right now
    It's https://osrtavern.com/

It's already working if you sign up with email :)

  20. I would prefer a forum, then reddit (which is forum-ish).

  21. if you're going to move the official community, move it to somewhere that's isn't operating in startup mode but living in the red off of venture capital. that probably means reddit IMO.
