First of all, can I say that your interpretation of Viriconuim is extremely insightful and thought-provoking - I'm going to bookmark it just to refresh my critical brain cells from time to time. Second: would you consider setting the game in the Everway uni/multiverse? One of the commenters suggested using the Tarot, which is central to Everway mechanics; also, I always thought Everway encapsulated that evanescence, that fragmentation of time and reality that is such a hallmark of Viriconium, beautifully (plus you have a ready-made character for dramatising the drawing of the cards.) Everway's easy to find, though OOP - I've got all the materials and no-one to play with! But I always thought it would do a great Viriconium. Anyway, good luck with your project.Viriconium369https://www.blogger.com/profile/05891699080919444861noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-62299673580014624762008-05-23T07:34:00.000+08:002008-05-23T07:34:00.000+08:00That would work well too, as a way of emulating th...That would work well too, as a way of emulating the same archetypes/different people concept. One other idea I thought of would be to have the same players, but each session (or each few sessions) they would draw from a deck of cards - a Tarot deck, in keeping with the spirit of the books - to determine which archetype character they play. They would then roll up a new character, but he or she would have to be a riff on the archetype they drew.

The reason I liked the idea of a Viriconium Western Marches style game is that with a different combination of people playing each week (or whatever) you would have radically different sessions - especially as a cornerstone of the Western Marches concept is that the players work out independently of the DM what sort of gaming session they want and what they want to do in it. They would have complete freedom to say "Let's have a game where we try to slay a lamia" or "Let's play a political-intrigue type game" or "Let's try to steal a famous work of art" or whatever they wanted.noismshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09933436762608669966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-63068374891934126482008-05-23T06:39:00.000+08:002008-05-23T06:39:00.000+08:00Yikes!Hmmm... It seems more suitable to a more intimate game, especially if you let the players take advantage of the fact that their PCs might have the same stats from game to game, but actually be different people.

Regardless, this sounds extremely cool. Be sure to let us know how it runs for you.

- Briantrollsmythhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01895349218958093151noreply@blogger.com
