Take at as homage rather than querulousness or even much of a reply. You just got me thinking on the subject.
http://gortsfriend.blogspot.com/2013/08/science-vs-art.htmlGort's Friendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08684913847135419951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-74907942569361666382013-08-21T01:30:52.324+08:002013-08-21T01:30:52.324+08:00I love how I get better explanations of conservati...I love how I get better explanations of conservative thinking from Monsters & Manuals than from actual traditionalist-Conservative websites (except Oz Conservative - but most of them just whinge about how awful things are, without any discussion of how they could be done differently).
On RPGs in particular, yes you're definitely right. I did huge damage to my GMing for a while ca 2004 when I discovered The Forge and started pursuing a Rationalist ideological approach, at the expense of what I was actually already doing well. The ideas Mr. Oakeshoot discusses can certainly be applied to the process of game design as well.JBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08532311924539491087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-74871876132769007862013-08-20T20:25:16.485+08:002013-08-20T20:25:16.485+08:00Do keep writing on this topic, the more specific e...Do keep writing on this topic, the more specific examples the better.Roger G-Shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08594440701279968693noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-48044994171333754412013-08-20T18:07:29.666+08:002013-08-20T18:07:29.666+08:00Well, that's Part II... ;)Well, that's Part II... ;)noismshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09933436762608669966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-87804554211292931192013-08-20T18:06:56.079+08:002013-08-20T18:06:56.079+08:00I agree entirely.I agree entirely.noismshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09933436762608669966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-18793049435934106002013-08-20T16:37:14.744+08:002013-08-20T16:37:14.744+08:00You got it. The more modern games (AD&D forward, actually) being caught up in making the rules perfect all by themselves, without taking into account the game can't run properly without the DM and rulings. It's like they want to eliminate the need for DM calls, and as a result the rules become the focus not the overall gameplay.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2513019539869706574.post-11028754883215893142013-08-20T14:18:21.614+08:002013-08-20T14:18:21.614+08:00Great post, I love these kind of posts.
