Tom Kilian continues to excel himself with the artwork for The Great North, now heading towards completion. As an Easter present, here is a work-in-progress image for the cover:
And for full-page chapter titles for The Place of Keepers:
The Wild Coast:
The Great Broceliande:
The Hardwater:
The Hill of Wolves:
The Emperor's Meadow:
And the Dark River Dale:
These will all be full-colour illos in the final version of the book.
I hope the black and white drawings will be available somewhere as well. They are lovely.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely consider it!
DeleteThese are absolutely outstanding illustrations! :-)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could take credit!
DeleteThese are stunning works of art
ReplyDeleteThey are.
DeleteI spy Tom Kilian! One of my absolute favorites.
ReplyDeleteI told him that it is a privilege to have his illustrations complementing the text.
DeleteI am jealous.
ReplyDeleteSo am I, actually.
DeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteWow, stunning, those are really special.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteThis is really exciting; those illustrations are beautiful
ReplyDeleteThanks. I'm really excited too!
DeleteThe black-and-white suits the art style as well. Excited for it! I don't know the terms to explain it, but I like the lack of whimsy in this art style. I also appreciate the grounded sense that comes through your work - especially this project, and I wonder if that's why I love these pairings.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. It's very sincere, is the right word?
DeleteSomething between grounded and sincere feels right to me! Elements of realism that still embrace the fantasy.
DeleteReally awesome art. Is this a setting, a game , or both? Where can I read more about this? Particularly interested in literary/genre influences. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt's a setting! It's billed as the Northumberland version of Yoon-Suin. A setting based on a fantasy version of the English county adopting the same approach of lots of random tables. Perhaps the easiest thing to do is just read the other posts on the topic: https://monstersandmanuals.blogspot.com/search/label/the%20great%20north
DeleteOh perfect, thank you. I had clicked the great north label but it only took me to two posts. Will read.
