  1. I was completely independently thinking the other day about how there's a whole story to be told about knights and mercenaries carving duchies out of Greece in the wake of the Fourth Crusade. Byzantium is fascinating because it brings together so many different medieval elements, everything from Saxons to steppe nomads all hanging out and killing each other in the same zone.
