Well, The Most Mammoth Bestiary-related RPG Download Ever is finished and available for download.
You can find it here, or, alternatively, you can look at the sidebar to the right of my blog and click the link under "Noisms' Miscellany of RPG Downloads".
I'm not happy with the formatting, because it took forever and as I was checking through last night I was still finding orphaned text all over the shop. But whatever; that's part of its rough and ready charm, and the content is what matters.
For those who are wondering what this is: It's 2200 pages of in-depth analysis and creative brainstorming by a large number of rpg.net geeks regarding EVERY SINGLE MONSTER IN THE 2nd EDITION ADnD MONSTROUS MANUAL. Doesn't matter what flavour of DnD you prefer - just enjoy the ideas.
Thanks for this. I've had that thread bookmarked since pretty much the beginning, and it's great to have an easily readable local copy.
ReplyDelete2,200 pages? 85Mb? That's my weekend reading sorted then. Cheers Noisms.
ReplyDeleteYou had me at "Bestiality." Oh, wait ...
ReplyDeleteYour place in the game blog pantheon is thus assured.
ReplyDeleteCheers, indeed!
Good god this thing is straining my acrobat reader ... I think I'll treat it like Finnegans Wake and read a couple of random pages every evening ...

ReplyDeleteRoger, google Foxit Reader. You won't be sorry, and you'll never go back to Acrobat.
ReplyDeleteSuperhero Necromancer: Did you ever post on the thread? What's your rpg.net nickname?
ReplyDeleteThis brings back so many memories, and there are so many good ideas in there. Thanks for collecting this, noisms.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Kelvin. Your name crops up quite a lot in there.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the guys who put in a lot of input don't seem to be bloggers, which is a shame. I think Sleeper stands out for special mention, but there are a handful of others who were commenting all the way through from the beginning and had some great ideas.
I stopped blogging too early. Messing with the monsters and thinking of rationalizations for the their existence in the game world was always my favorite part of thinking about the game, hands down.
ReplyDeleteThis is fun reading, man. Thanks!
You're welcome, Cameron. It's not really me - I was just the guy posting the names of the monsters, effectively. The commenters came up with most of the gold. There's some great stuff in there.
ReplyDeleteInteresting stuff. Thanks for doing this!
ReplyDeleteSomebody is blogging through the Monstrous Manual: http://monstrousparty.tumblr.com/
Unfortunately, s/he isn't including artist labels. Fans of the 2eMM and Tony DiTerlizzi may also want to be aware that he talks about his illustrating of the manual in an episode of the Open Design Podcast, but you might have trouble finding it now that the podcast is defunct.
Theodric: Thanks for that link, and thanks even more for getting me onto that DiTerlizzi podcast. He's hands down my favourite fantasy artist.
ReplyDeleteAwesome compilation. Thanks a bunch!
ReplyDeleteHey, you living in Kanagawa? If so, we should game sometime. I've never played a descending AC system, but I own all the old books and am excited about Dungeon Crawl Classics and Oldschool Hack.

ReplyDeleteI was in Chigasaki, Yokohama and Kawasaki for 7 years altogether, but I'm actually living in the UK now (more's the pity; I'd go back to Japan in a heartbeat).
ReplyDeleteA pity.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you know any good gamers in the area, send them my way.
Downloaded. This will likely be a big part of my reading on my upcoming cruise. It will also likely heavily inform a new setting.
ReplyDeleteSo looking forward to it.
@Claytonian - I fail at Japanese geography, but you might check out Greg at The Dump Stat.
No joke, I was actually Greg's DM once upon a time up in Saitama! Small internet.
ReplyDeleteMarshall: You're most welcome. Enjoyed your contributions to the thread.
